The Nigeria Data Protection Act (“Act”) came into force on 12 June 2023. The Act is therefore the substantive legislation on data protection and data privacy in Nigeria. Prior to the enactment of the Act the framework for data protection and data privacy in Nigeria was primarily governed by the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (“NDPR”) and the NDPR Implementation Framework issued by the National Information Technology Development Agency (“NITDA”).
